The definition of an oven is a compartment used for heating, baking and drying. Ovens are used mostly for baking food and firing pottery. Those used for firing porcelain are called kilns. An oven used for heating or in factories are also called furnaces.
The first ovens were created by the Indus Valley Civilization nearby 3200 B. C. History reveals that the old Greeks advanced the art of bread baking. They used a front loading bread oven.

The small toaster oven is commonly a mixture of a grill and small galvanic oven. They are used for toasting, warming and grilling such things as meat, fish, pizza and burgers. They commonly have an adjustable thermostat and automated shut off. These appliances are basically cheaper in price and range from twenty to one hundred dollars.
Microwaves cook or heat food by use of dielectric heating. Microwave radiation heats the water and polarized molecules within the food. This method heats the food speedily and most wholly throughout the food. The price of the ovens range from sixty dollars to well over a few hundred dollars. The more costly microwaves have added features and automated cooking times for foods such as baked potato, popcorn and others.
A Dutch Oven is a cooking pot that is three legged. They are made of heavy cast iron and used over an open fire. There are two types of Dutch ovens. The first one is made for outdoor cooking at the campsite. The second type is about the same but has a flat base to be used on a stove top. Both appliances have tight fitting legs. They are very versatile and can be used for such cooking methods as roasting, stewing, frying, steaming and baking. There are many campfire recipes for this type of oven. Some examples are chili, soups, biscuits, frying chicken or fish and baking desserts like blueberry buckle.
They are also easy for cleanup. The cast iron face needs to be cured prior to first use. After that the face is non stick and easy to clean. It can be cured again with oil from time to time as needed. A well cured cast iron skillet or Dutch oven is a prized piece of equipment for any cook. The Dutch Oven ranges in price from approximately twenty five dollars to about seventy five dollars. They come in dissimilar sizes also. Some of the sizes are approximately five quart, seven or eight quart.
There are many types of small ovens for the home cook. Some are more costly than others. The small ones take less space and are easy for a new cook to work with.
