History of Honey

Food And Dessert

Records can not definitively state how long honey has existed. Some believe honey dates back farther than 20 millions years, but honey bee fossils cause think to believe that date could expand to over 150 millions years. Cave paintings in Spain suggest that beekeeping began almost nearby 7000 B.C. And Egyptian records from 2400 B.C. Provide evidence of their culture keeping bees in hives.

The Egyptians used honey in more ways than one. As well as its coarse use as a sweetener, Egyptians gave honey as a gift to their gods and used it as a component of their embalming fluid. The Romans also gave honey to their gods and were known to cover physical wounds in honey to cure and promote natural healing. The Romans and Greeks both utilized honey as a form of cooking but nearby the turn of the seventeenth century, honey became primarily used as a sweetener.

Honey Production

So, how do bees yield honey? The process begins at the flower as the bee gathers the flower's nectar. The majority of nectar is water and a minority is involved sugars. Bees need to store and make the sugar usable, so the bees alter the nectar changing it into honey. To unblemished this task, a employee bee that has a full stomach of nectar flies to the hive to regurgitate the modified nectar for a hive bee. Then, the hive bee ingests the nectar to break down the sugars. Once the hive bee has completed that task, he regurgitates the nectar into a cell of the comb. The hive bees are responsible for beating their wings in order to evaporate any remaining water; once complete, the sugar converts to honey. In a lifetime, a employee bee produces 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey, but when bees in a colony work together, more than 200 pounds of honey are produced within one year.

Honeybees' hard work provides us with a wholesome and useful food. All in all, it consists of 80% natural sugars, 18% water, and 2% vitamins, minerals, and pollen. Keep in mind, honey does not expire because it does not harbor bacteria, so you can keep it on your shelf for as long as necessary!

Weight Loss Basics - Shame

There is something that we don't talk about; we don't talk about it because it's a secret. It's one that we all have. Some of us have quieted it down, and some of us think it's a dark incommunicable that we can't admit to a soul, even to ourselves.

It's what we do after working so hard to supervene a regular regime of food and exercise. When all things is going great-until it isn't. That's the tricky part. You see, we don't even know when the opinion will creep up. The thing is, it all the time does, and, on some level, it all the time will. What am I talking about? You know. I'm talking about The Binge. Such a silly word for something so destructive: the violent flogging of our very selves, the selves we think we hate. We do it alone, in secret, in the dark, so that no one will ever know. But we know. It's our shame, our dark minute secret. We lie about it to everyone, especially to ourselves.

Food And Dessert

You know what I mean because you've done it, too. Sure, you'll tell everyone how well you eat, how you can't illustrate why you're not losing weight. "Maybe it's my thyroid," you'll say, "because I eat very well and not very much!" And everyone will sympathize and believe you, as well, because they see what you eat: the salads, the veggies, the fruits, and never dessert, right? Ah, but they don't see what happens after the door closes, when no one is around. The Binge. And then we lie again. "I will be there when the gym opens tomorrow, no matter what," we promise ourselves.

Lies. Sad, sad, lies.

Why would I speak of something that is so very difficult for you to talk about and for me to explain? Well, if we keep this incommunicable deep inside of ourselves, it will stay right there, chronic to damage us as it has in the past. Do you think you are weak? Do you think no one will understand? Do you think you will be judged, ridiculed, and shamed? Are you afraid that if you look at it and speak of it aloud, then it will become real? It is already real. You know it is because you do it, and I will tell you this: you are not alone. Many citizen bury this dark secret, but there are ways to deal with it, and many of us have been able to deal with it by taking it into the light. We have found ways to deal with the pain, the sorrow, the solitude, and anything else, by bringing it into the light. And when the incommunicable is out, it no longer adds to our pain.

One remedy is to let others in. Let the citizen who love you into your world. Start by telling man the secret, or if that is too difficult to do then do me a favor: before you sit down all by yourself to throw yourself away, take a moment to think about what it is you're feeling. I can certify you it's not hunger, but something deeper. Take a moment before you take that dive, and ask yourself what is hurting. If you can't tell someone, write it down in a letter to yourself. Then you can look at it clearly. At least it will no longer be a incommunicable you keep from yourself. Write it down and keep writing until you don't have to keep hurting yourself, so that you don't have to eat and eat and eat until it hurts more than the pain you are feeling inside.

When you start to do this, to express yourself, to allow yourself to feel what it is you're nothing else but feeling, you will see that it's not hunger. Is it possibly sadness? Despair? Fear? All of the above? Yes. It's pain. That pain is the presume you have the problem you have now, the presume you find yourself reading this. I understand, and I know that what you need is more than a list of foods that you should eat to lose weight. I can and will give that to you, but first, you need to have the strength, the conviction, to look within and own your feelings. Even if you do choose to self-destruct this time, the next time, at least, you might be able to name it and see it for what it is.

You see; you and I are no different. I have been where you are, and so have my clients. Many of us have crossed over and brought our pain to the light, but please know that even now I sometimes feel the sadness creeping up on me. However, I now know how to let myself feel and accept that it will happen again: we are human, and sadness is part of the human experience. Allow yourself to feel it, own it, and then love yourself, and hold your head up high with pride, with beauty, and with strength.

You can do this, we all can.

Tinkerbell Party Ideas - Costumes, Decorations, Activities and More

Tinkerbell is a well known Disney character from Peter Pan, her own fairy movies, and is a popular theme for children's parties. While party planning may seem overwhelming, it doesn't have to. If your child wants a Tinkerbell themed birthday party, here are a few ideas for decorations, costumes, and activities.

Everyone knows that dressing up makes the party more fun. Fortunately you don't have to spend a bundle on Tinkerbell and fairy costumes. There are a range of fairy costumes available online that can be shipped to your house in a matter of days. When you are planning a party last minute or don't have time to leave the house, shopping for costumes online can be a life-saver. If you are finding for some sparkly wings, a full Tinkerbell costume, or even a concentrate of fairy wands, you can commonly find what you are finding for at a great price. Most importantly, your child can use her costume for playing dress up long after the party is over.

Food And Dessert

The second thing you will want to do is get the decorations. You can pick up the basics at any party provide store. I recommend getting some Tinkerbell cups, plates and napkins. A great color scheme to stick with is green, purple, and pink. You can get cheap streamers and balloons in those colors as well. Another fun idea is to sprinkle sparkly confetti on the tables to look like pixie dust. If weather permits, you can set up covering and hang decorations from the trees in your yard. If you want to go a bit further, you can buy reasonably priced paper lanterns and hang those from tree branches or the ceiling in your house. However you decorate, think along the lines of a fairy organery tea party.

Once you have done these two things it is time to start planning the activities. You can make a treasure hunt by hiding small bags of plastic coins or other toy jewels around your house or yard. Another idea is to play 'pin the wands on the fairy'. The kids can cut out wands from paper and decorate it and then try to pin it on a picture of Tinkerbell where her wand should be. You can also buy some fairy makeup and paint sparkly designs on the kids' cheeks. Another excellent action is a Tinkerbell pinata. Of course you can always put on a Tinkerbell movie to keep them entertained.

Lastly are the food and party favors. Serve minute sized food like finger sandwiches or tiny cookies. For dessert you could go with a cake or you may choose to get cupcakes, which are becoming a popular choice for parties. Whether way you can get them decorated in a Tinkerbell style. For the party favors, get small bags and fill them with toy jewelry, body glitter, and if you want to be clever, Pixie Stix candy.

These are just a few ideas you can use to make a fun Tinkerbell themed birthday party. For Tinkerbell costume ideas and accessories check out http://tinkerbellcostumes.com/

Dig In: We've Got 5 Diet-Friendly Desserts

Goodbye sweet days of chocolate cake, sayonara my gorgeous banana split, farewell my flavorful flan and hasta la vista my scrumptious apple pie. I know we've shared some savory mouthwatering memories together but there's just no room for you in my new balanced healthy diet. It's time for me to buckle down and ignore my sweet tooth from sending me back your way.

Did you know that the word desserts spelled backwards spells stressed? For many of you out there that's exactly what it brings. Trying to stop yourself from your beloved temptations can trigger a terrible number of tension. It's no wonder that something as delicious as treats can turn into a dieter's worst nightmare.

Food And Dessert

Put away your handkerchief because it's time to kiss and eat up! You don't have to reach for the sky to get to your pie. It is potential to dig into delicious desserts without damaging your diet. You shouldn't feel restricted from eating foods you enjoy. Depriving yourself will most likely just lead you on the road to dieting disaster when willpower runs out. Instead of giving up your beloved treats, think about what goes in them and use some imagination.

The most tasteless diet destroyers in desserts are dairy and fats. Other nutritional factors to think may include how much sugar, cholesterol and sodium the product contains. It's prominent to always check the nutritional facts on the sides of packages. Don't let the words low fat or low carb fool you. It's always good to correlate items and read the labels carefully. Make sure you know what you are buying. Straightforward substitutions can make a world of difference.

An mean ice cream bar can include 180 calories and 12 grams of fat -- not exactly a dieter's friend. And some of the best-known brands are significantly higher than that. A Dove Bar has 350 calories and 22 grams of fat, while the new Breyer's Magnum Bars pack 14 grams of saturated fat (20 grams total fat) each!

What's the alternative, you ask? How about a rich, plane pudding pop? The store-bought versions mean 100 calories and 2 to 3 grams of fat, but you can cut the fat even added and add a wee nutrition by manufacture your own.

Susan Burke, eDiets Vp of nutrition Services, says: "You can modify any recipe, especially desserts, to make it healthy. The formula section on our site can give you great ideas. It can be as Straightforward as using egg whites instead of a whole egg or reducing the number of sugar in a recipe. If the formula calls for a cup of sugar, use only one-third cup instead. There are even fat-free chocolate chips so you can replace the full-fat ones.

"However, some desserts are easier to modify then others. For example, it's hard to modify angel food cake because of its high sugar content. But there are sugar substitutes, such as Splenda, that are great for baking. The key to staying healthy is manufacture healthy choices wherever you go. The best thing to do is Experiment, Experiment, Experiment!"

There is nothing wrong with digging into your beloved delights. But even diet-friendly desserts can come to be risky to your waistline. Moderation is the key to enjoying treats every now and then. Remember to always check the serving size. What you eat is important. But insight how much you're eating is crucial. Creativity is also essential. Try new recipes and satisfy your sweet tooth using sensible substitutions. After all, as Forest Gump once said, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get."

Here are five deliciously divine desserts that are low in guilt and high on flavor. Go ahead... Indulge!

Holiday Weight Loss Survival

The reality of the advent of the holidays hit me as I was invited to my first Holiday Party this first week of November. Later that day, the invitations and save the dates came rolling in. While this may sound moving because parties are fun, for myself and many of you, this means navigating obligatory cocktails, chocolate, cookies, dinners that don't fit in my cusine plan, and mom's pumpkin pie.

Then there's the major time constrictions due to shopping, gift giving, being the hostess with the mostess, and maintaining the rest of life as it is.

Food And Dessert

My first response was to begin formulating a plan in my head of the strategies I will have to hire to say my fitness goals for this year. Being a fitness professional, I immediately think weight loss strategies and I would like to share mine with you.

See this year is special. I have an actual, solid, goal. It's not weight loss specifically. Weight loss will be the byproduct. It's performance. So every action I take and the potential of my food will effect my achievement of this goal.

So here's my goal, one true pull up. I have not been able to do a pull up in my adult years so that's what I'm going for. Without going off on too much of a tangent, a pull up is one of the best core exercises around. Only second to the push up. But there is more to my story and this goal than meets the eye. Which is why my upcoming holiday survival tips are much dissimilar than the ones you'll find online.

My Holiday Weight Loss Survival Strategy whole one is: Keep Your Eye On The Prize

To the bystander, having a goal to do a pull up may sound impotent. A pull up by itself is an impotent goal. I mean, will I be less of a man if I don't do a pull up? Will I be judged or ridiculed if I don't? No. But digging deeper will give this pull up so much meaning that the pain I will feel by not doing it will leave me feeling defeated and maybe even depressed.

How will this help you survive your holiday party? We'll dig deeper. My goal to do a pull up is foremost to me because I turned 40 years old this year. 40 years old is a milestone in our culture. It means I'm middle-aged and over the hill. I say old man things like "Remember when we had to get up to change the channel" and "I used to own that 45″ or "going to McDonald's was a treat for us!" Not cool.

For me, doing a pull up proves that I still have it. It means I am still strong and significant. It means I am stronger than the 20 year old something's that can't do a pull up. Why is this foremost to me? I want to be so strong that I can pick up and summit Mt. Kilimanjaro for my 70th birthday. I want to set a great example for my son as man who enjoys life and be known as the crazy aunt who sets the woman's bench press report at age 85. I want to do a pull up because it will make me feel significant, admired, and loved.

Will this keep me from over indulging at each of my parties? You bet. When I'm asked if I want a third glass of wine when my limit for the party is just two, I will visualize Mt. Kilimanjaro, smile, and say, "I'm doing great, none for me right now."

Now it's your turn. Set a goal for yourself for this holiday season. You may want to lose 10 lbs before January 1st, or rehearsal 3 times a week without fail, maybe you want to stick to one sweetmeat for each party. Anyone your goal, I encourage you to dig deeper and find the juicy, most potent reckon behind achieving this goal. Maybe you'll feel the way I do and allow reasons and feelings such as significance, admiration, and love hold more point than over indulging.

The Brides Guide to Planning a Wedding on a allocation

He proposed! He got on his knee and asked you to marry him! A stupendous feeling of joy and happiness soon followed by panic! I have to plan a wedding, a reception, and a honeymoon! I have to get a dress! Who are my bridesmaids? Who am I going to invite? How am I going to pay for it?

As a wedding consultant, I know that many of these questions are swarming around the bride's head. Yes, these details are all important. Let's put this in perspective, though. Your wedding day is about you and your future husband production a commitment of a lifetime to each other. It is only one day, but a very special day. Now, after you have calmed down a bit and conception about some of your dreams for the big day, you need to sit down and set a budget. You need to realistically think about it, taking into inventory your income, your future husband's income, and anyone else who is contributing to the event. Put it on paper and get an exact whole from those contributing or find out what parts of the wedding they are planning on paying for. Do not plan on paying for the wedding on credit, if you can help it. If you do pay with prestige cards, make sure that you can pay the equilibrium off each month! Also, do not count on your wedding gift money either, because you do not have any idea how much that will be. Plan to save your wedding gift money and use it to start your nest egg.

Food And Dessert

Once your allocation is on paper, start your planning. Get a wedding planning notebook, binder, or Cd for your computer. Or check out the myriad of wedding planning options on the internet. Write down the things you would like to do, but make sure you think of all aspects of the big day from the church to the reception. Some of the items you need to plan for are the wedding dress, invitations, wedding favors, cake topper, unity candle possessor and gifts for the bridal party. Do your explore and save time by checking the internet first. Be sure to assess prices and keep in mind delivery charges.

Let's start off with one of the bride's most favorite items, the Wedding Dress! I encourage you to look at all of the bridal magazines and go to the big group stores or the cute boutiques and try on all things you like. But think about the following questions before your purchase. Can you find the dress at an off the rack store? Is the dress ready online at a allowance web store? Is the same or a similar dress being offered on eBay? Also consider borrowing a dress from a friend or a relative. Talk about inexpensive! Just be sure to have it dry-cleaned and boxed after wearing!Another quick note about dresses, rather than getting alterations at the store, consider going to your dry-cleaner or a local seamstress. Most of time, the stores will offer to do alterations for an extra charge, but beware, they will encourage you to buy a dress that is way too large so that the seamstress has more alterations to do, and hence, more money for the seamstress and the store. Now let's get into the nitty-gritty, the reception! The food and banquet hall are quite maybe the most high-priced part of the wedding. Do you explore and plan ahead! Banquet halls and caterers offer discounts for early booking. Also, think about having your reception on a Sunday or a weekday. Banquet halls regularly offer discounts for less favorite days like Sunday afternoon.

Once you have picked the date, get the details about the offerings from the banquet hall, country club, or caterer. Is the menu all inclusive or is it a la carte? Find out if the bar service, champagne toast, wine at the table, hors d'oeuvres, ice sculpture, sweetmeat table, and wedding cake are included or either there are extra charges for these items. Do you want and need all these items? consider your options considered and conclude what is a must have and what would be just nice to have. One item that has some options to choose from is the bar service. This can be a good chunk of your reception cost! You can either pay for an open bar with or without top shelf liquor (but who knows what that will cost!) or you can look at the options and pick a package. consider the basic wine, beer, and soda container which is regularly the least high-priced option, or just offer wine at the table with a champagne toast.

Another leading factor affecting your allocation is the time of day for the event. If you have your reception earlier while the day and offer a lunch or brunch you can get away with having fancy etched plastic dinnerware rather than fine china dinnerware. The banquet hall may not offer the option, but don't hesitate to ask and see.

Also, your guests are not going to expect a full bar while lunch or brunch, so you can undoubtedly get away without having a bar and just having a champagne toast, as mentioned previously.Once you have nailed down the reception details, make sure to book the church or reverend, florist, and the band or D.J. (the D.J. Is regularly the less high-priced of the two). Someone else nice option to consider, is hiring Someone else type of musician such as a pianist, violinist, or flutist to contribute music while dinner is served.

Once again, check to see if you can get a allowance for booking on a less favorite day. As you can see, there are many ways to keep to your allocation for your wedding day. You may not be able to afford all of the bells and whistles, but by holding to what is leading to you and remembering that the day is about you and your future spouse, your wedding day will be a fantastic celebration of the start of your marriage.

South America's 3 Most Typical National Meals

One of the best ways to enjoy a South America holiday is to enjoy the discrete cultures through its food. The continent has some of the most distinctive dishes known in the world. Just take for example the red meat that millions flock to Argentina to try every year, and the many seafood dishes visitors go to Peru to try.

But once you're in South America in a brand new world surrounded by new elements teasing all of your senses, it might be difficult to incorporate on ordering the perfect meal. Fret no more because here we break down the most typical meal set to try in each of the continent's 3 most favorite countries.

Food And Dessert

Peru - papas a la huancaína (starter), ceviche (entree), picarones (dessert)

Order an appetizer of papas a la huancaína, which are either slices of a larger potato or boiled small potatoes. Peru is the home for thousands of species of potatoes, and make sure to try them when you are in the Andes such as during your trips to Machu Picchu. Ceviche, raw seafood in a marinade of lime juice, is the most iconic Limeño dish because the capital city is settled right along the Pacific coast. Conclude off your light but fulfilling meal with freshly fried picarones, which are hot rings of dough mixed with sweet potato or pumpkin, dunked in molasses.

Argentina - picada (starter), steak (entree), alfajor (dessert)

If you can, try to order a small starter picada platter. They present the best finger foods in Argentina, together with cuts of delectable meat, cheeses, and breads. Your steak should order soon, and be sure to try this because no Argentina vacation packages would be faultless without trying the country's most typical entrée. Argentina beef is so well known because of the way they raise the cattle over the open fields in the Mendoza region. dessert should be an alfajor cookie, two shortbread cookies fused together with a saccharine slab of dulce de leche caramel.

Brazil - coxinha (starter), churrasco (entree), brigadeiro (dessert)

Coxinhas are Portuguese, but like many other colonial elements, have been adopted into Brazilian culture. They are hearty pieces of white chicken breast, breaded and fried, resembling the shape of a teardrop. Meat is also very favorite in Brazil in addition to Argentina, and a churrasco, or barbeque, is a true Brazilian experience. Enjoy as discrete cuts of grilled meat are cut onto your plate at a churrasqueira until you cannot eat any more. Top off the heavy meal with a small, delightful piece of brigadeiro, or chocolate bonbon topped with chocolate sprinkles!

South America's 3 Most Typical National Meals

Buffets Don't Have to Be a Diet Destroyer

I just returned from gorgeous Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Staying at an all inclusive resort screams one thing to me - All the food you can eat! Being faced with buffets for most of your meals can be stressful for a vacationer that has been on a fitness agenda or is trying to keep weight off.

Here Are Five Ways to Lose Weight at Buffets

Food And Dessert

1. Search for the Buffet Before you Make Choices.

My first concentrate of buffet dinners were a disaster. I managed to eat two plates plus dessert. Yikes! After realizing I could not continue like that for a week I started to take my time to look at all first. Doing this allowed me to make great choices. Instead of grabbing two rice dishes because I liked the second one great than the first, I only chose the best one. It nothing else but made a difference.

2. Take the Small Plate.

Taking a small plate (even when you are not at a buffet) is a good method to "trick" yourself that you are eating more than you nothing else but are.

3. Fill up on Fruits and Veggies.

The good thing about a buffet is there are a lot of fruits and veggies that you may not have the time to prepare for yourself at home. With all of the variety it's an easy (and delicious) way to eat salutary and feel full.

4. Avoid Battered, Fried and Creamed food.

As a normal rule if you avoid these foods you should be okay. It's a real diet killer. Even if you eat more than usual but skip these artery cloggers, you won't have much to worry about.

5. Go Easy on dessert and Alcohol.

It's tempting to want to try a lot of dessert but don't go for cafeteria sized portions. A exiguous sliver of cake here and there is okay, two big pieces plus ice cream is not! As far as alcohol goes, if you know you will be drinking at night or the beach the next day, get a tea instead or water.

I nothing else but lost a pound or two this vacation because I ate smaller meals and loaded up on fresh fruit and veggies. I feel great!

How to Persuade Yourself to Lose Weight

Suppose that, like me, you are a Baby Boomer and that you want continuing weight loss, in other words, you want to enhance the blend of your body by decreasing your ration of body fat.

How?

Food And Dessert

After all, there are lots and lots of distinct diet and exercise programs that supposedly promote improved body composition. You have well heard of many of them and probably even tried some yourself. Nevertheless, you have been decades without learning the underground to continuing weight loss. Why?

Permit me to advise that you are blocking yourself from what you want.

When I was growing up, my house ate three meals a day. Morning meal all the time began with juice, milk, and cereal; sometimes it included pancakes or waffles with syrup. Lunch was all the time sandwiches and milk. Supper was almost all the time meat and potatoes accompanied by a few beans or peas and a sweet dessert. Possibly your childhood eating habits were similar to mine.

This was despite the fact that my father, who was an internist, might reasonably have been expected to have a sophisticated knowledge of nutrition. Well, he did not. Nor did my mother. They loved us kids, but they did not understand how to feed us well or feed us to promote continuing weight loss.

What they well were doing was plainly recreating the eating patterns of their own childhoods.

It reminds me of a story. A five-year old girl was watching her mum prepare the ham for Easter dinner. Her mum cut the ends off the ham before putting it in the baking dish. The minuscule girl asked, "Why did you do that, Mommy?" Her mum paused for a occasion and said, "I did that because that is the way my mum all the time did it. Now that you ask, though, I do not know why she did it that way. Let us ask her." The grandmother of the minuscule girl was there visiting for the holiday meal. When they asked her, she told them, "When I was first married, I had to cut the ends off the ham because it would not fit in the only baking dish I owned, which was very small. I guess I just fell into the habit of doing it that way."

The qoute about the lack of continuing weight loss comes because, (1) unless we deliberately work to enhance them, beliefs are persistent and (2) many of our beliefs about what we ought to eat are not well-supported by nutritional evidence.

In other words, we think of ourselves as confident kinds of eaters and plainly behave accordingly; unfortunately, our nutritional beliefs about continuing weight loss are under-supported by ready evidence. Ultimately, that explains why you have been unable to perform continuing weight loss, why you are too fat.

The explication is to do a much good job examining your nutritional beliefs. It may never have occurred to you even to demand them! I infer that this is the kind of example that led Plato to write that "[t]he unexamined life is not worth living." Please make it a deliberate course to witness those beliefs that are controlling your eating habits. That is the right way for you to enhance body composition. To enhance your body, enhance your mind.

In fact, it is best to lead an examined life, a life in which you deliberately question, seriously examine, all your prominent beliefs. The only real alternative is to rely on luck or magic--and neither luck nor magic leads to living well.

Should you be eating processed grains such as Morning meal cereals and breads? Should you be eating dairy products? Should you be eating potatoes? Should you be drinking juice?

The truth is that those are examples of foods that your victorious ancestors never ate. [I advise never eating them.]

If you are serious about continuing weight loss, I advise setting aside all your beliefs about which foods are best to eat and demand them seriously. Re-admit only those that stand up to faithful examination.

Also witness your feeding frequency. Where is it written that human beings should eat only three times a day? [I advise eating about every three waking hours.]

Meanwhile, during your examination, eat only natural foods that are as similar as potential to those of your victorious Pleistocene ancestors. The fact is that they flourished on those foods. Since your genes are 99.9% the same as your ancestors' genes 10,000 years ago, you will physically flourish on those foods as well.

All the contemporary diseases, along with obesity, of contemporary humans are avoidable. Most of us kill ourselves by the way we live. Our diets are too poor (and unnecessarily poor); for example, we eat too many refined or processed carbohydrates as well as other starchy, salty, and sugary foods. We exercise too little. We drink too much alcohol, and we smoke. (There is a list of recommended readings on my website that maintain these claims.)

If you are typical and you would rather flourish physically than remain as you are, please at least suspend some of your beliefs in order to test some other ones to see if they work better. There is no shortage: there is an ample sufficiency of productive ideas about continuing weight loss and improved health, fullness for everyone.

Changing Nutritional Needs For Elderly Parents

For most of our adult lives, our bodies are predictable machines. Year after year, we fuel them with the same popular foods, catering to our cravings, definite that the only adverse follow will be an overly full belly. All of that changes, however, as we advent our golden years. With the onset of old age, the suitable meals that have been fixtures on our menus for decades can suddenly come to be health hazards. For me, this became painfully apparent only recently, when I saw my elderly father's nutritional needs palpate a major shift.

When I first made the decision to care for my elderly father more than 10 years ago, I pretty much gave Dad free reign of the kitchen. He ate all of the dishes he'd all the time enjoyed, including spicy foods and pre-packaged high-sodium meals. But after we contracted the services of Dad's current inexpressive caregiver, I realized I'd been doing him a big disservice by failing to intimately monitor his meals.

Food And Dessert

Based on what I've learned about the changing dietary needs of the elderly, I've compiled some tips for other baby boomers who are caring for an aging parent. Whenever possible, couple these strategies to growth the farranging health and well-being of your "patient":

o Watch the fat. Since elderly citizen tend to be less active and don't rehearsal as much, they start trading muscle tone for added body fat. This can growth their risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. I make sure Dad's meals don't contain too much fat, and that he gets some form of corporal performance a few times a week.

o Keep it balanced. As our parents age, it's more prominent than ever that they get all of the vitamins and nutrients they need-especially calcium, which helps to ensure bone health. Plan a menu that includes all of the food groups: lean meats, fruits and vegetables, milk and dairy, and breads and grains.

o Go dry. Seniors need a steady furnish of calcium to forestall bone fragility. Nonfat dry milk is an exquisite calcium source, and also contains plenty of vitamins A and D. Use it as a smart milk substitute for most any meal. Dry milk remains fresh for some months when stored in an airtight glass container.

o Limit the sweets. Cookies, cakes, and other fatty desserts are empty-calorie treats with puny to no nutritional value. Do your best to cut the frequency of these treats for your aging patient.

o Meet daily requirements. Older adults need the recommended amounts of requisite vitamins and minerals based on their ages and lifestyles. I plan Dad's meals to make sure he's getting plenty of zinc, iron, and fiber straight through lean red meats, dried beans, seasonal produce, and whole-grain breads.

o Control your inventory. It can be tempting to take advantage of discounts by buying in bulk, but then you'll have to find room to store it all. Plus, the surplus could go to waste if it's not used before the expiration date. Buy only what you know will get used. When you must purchase foods in larger quantities, divvy it up into private packaging and ice it to be consumed later.

o Turn one meal into four. Cook for larger portions and then save the leftovers for time to come meals. Some foods, such as lasagna, meatloaf, and casseroles, are great considerable for reheating than others.

o Master smart storage. To enlarge the freshness of non-refrigerated foods, keep them in tightly sealed glass mason jars. For best results, put them in the freezer for a night before transferring them to the pantry.

This storehouse solution works well for pasta, rice, flour, cereal, dried milk, and other shelved staples.

With some just planning and the advice of a trusted physician or caregiver, you can help ensure that your aging parent receives fresh, healthy meals that furnish both delight and sustenance.

How to Eat Right in 10 Minutes

It's Thursday afternoon, you have thirty minutes to get from work, go by the house and pickup Heath, Jamie's already at basketball practice, oh, and what about dinner? Does this scenario seem familiar? If you're a working Mom, I can promise that it is a customary scene.

So how do you make healthy food choices, when you only have fifteen minutes to get ready your meals? Well, the first thing you should comprehend is that quite often, healthy choices do not necessarily equate to two hour meals. You can make healthy food choices that are as quick to get ready or pickup as the unhealthy ones.

Food And Dessert

For example, sub sandwiches are a healthier alternative than pizza or burger and fries, but do not categorically take any longer to pickup. Salads can be ready in just a few short minutes, and contribute for the significant vegetable daily requirement. Don' care for the usual salad? Make a Waldorf or fruit salad, whether way you've changed it up a bit, and still in case, granted a health choice. As for the dressing, oil based or vinegar based dressings are much best for you than the cream based, and are categorically more tasteful.

Okay, suppose salads aren't what your kids like. What about other ready foods that are also healthy foods? healthy selection is a brand of freezing entrees or meals that take only a few minutes in the microwave to prepare, and are still healthy alternatives. Baked rather than fried is all the time a best choice, and many supermarkets today offer baked products fresh from their bakery, ready to go.

Still aren't satisfied? You want a place to go and categorically sit down and eat. There are still many healthy alternatives for a house when going to eat at a restaurant. Restaurants that offer buffet style meals are great choices. Thanks to many of the health conscious consumers out there, buffets have added baked, broiled, and fresh food choices to the display.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are normally all the time ready on food bars, along with broiled or steamed vegetables. Meats are just about as varied, with many of the choices being offered in a fried and baked option. And if you're up for dessert, watermelons and grapes are just as satisfying as the Boston cream pie.

You can all the time throw up objections when it comes to healthy eating, the real trick is in realizing it's your body that will suffer. Or your children that will suffer from the unhealthy choices you make. Why not start with healthy options, set the right example, and you will have children that make health conscious arresting decisions about their eating.

Okay, now back to our Thursday afternoon juggling act. You've dropped Heath at baseball practice, picked Jamie up from basketball, and you have exactly fifteen minutes to make a decision about dinner. As you sit at the red-light contemplating your options, there is a Subway, a Pizza Hut, and a grocery store with a deli in the same shopping center. How can this still be a difficult selection to make?

Walnuts can even help you combat the disease once you've been diagnosed. Figures show that one in eight women will deal with breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

Risks for breast cancer that you can't control comprise your age, being female, having a family history of disease, a genetic defect, your menstrual history or having been treated with radiation at a younger age.

However, there are risk factors you can control - things you can do something about. Like how much alcohol you drink (maximum of 1-2 alcoholic drinks a day), when you have your children, if you take hormone change therapy and of course, if you're carrying too much weight.

The study on breast cancer and walnuts was done on mice, with the researchers following the lifespan of the mice. They monitored the mother's diet when she was pregnant as well as the diet of her offspring straight through their lives.

The mice were divided into two groups, one that were given the equivalent of 2 ounces of walnuts a day in their daily diet, the second group following a typical diet but with no walnuts.

The team saw that mice who had been given walnuts had a principal lower risk of breast cancer, and for those that did they had fewer and smaller tumors.

This mixture has also been shown to be especially helpful in terms of heart problems. Yet, despite this, few U.S. Adults have made walnuts a daily addition to their diet - only 5.5% get about 1.25 ounces of tree nuts each day.

Walnuts are also a source of a phytonutrient that is not in other ordinarily found in other foods.

It's easy to get walnuts at your local store, a advantage in terms of freshness. You should try to comprise the skin, a white sometime waxy, flaky outer part of the walnut you'll see after it's been shelled - 90% of the beneficial phenols in walnuts come from the skin.

It's hard to deny the many benefits of eating walnuts, even if the most new study of lowering the risk of getting breast cancer was done on mice and not on people.

How to Consistently Attract New Customers - Month After Month

If you need a simple, set-it-and-forget-it marketing strategy to supplement your current efforts, you really can't do any great than a direct mail birthday campaign. They are highly effective, uncomplicated to set up and flat-out produce, month after month.

Before showing you exactly how easy it is to grab these extra customers, let's talk about why direct mail birthday campaigns work.

Food And Dessert

First off, there is a psychological aspect to it: population like to get gifts on their birthday, and they ordinarily appreciate when someone remembers their birthday and cares adequate to send a gift. The goodwill generated on behalf of your company and brand is nothing to sneeze at. In the long run this goes a very long way.

Second, offers - if well thought out - cause the expectation to feel compelled to act, because it's too good to pass up. Think about it as if it were you - your birthday - and you received an offer for a free cocktail and appetizer at a local cafeteria you never tried before. Would You feel compelled to go? If it were Not your birthday and they were just giving away food and drink willy-nilly your gut reaction may be that the cafeteria was 'desperate' for new customers and is probably not very good. But if it's a birthday gift it plays into those warm fuzzy emotions when someone remembers and acknowledges the day you were born. Right?

So now you've got a new customer, and you have two choices for how to turn a behalf on this situation: make their sense so good they turn into a repeat buyer (you should always be trying to do this anyway), or buildings the offer in such a way that the buyer is likely to purchase added items/services from you (but don't make that a requirement of the offer, because then it ceases to be a gift and you look like a jerk). In the cafeteria example likely the birthday girl will bring her indispensable other and they'll both have an whole meal and sweetmeat as well.

Both of these are easy to pull off considering you've come this far in your business.

It really is simple.

Step 1:

Purchase a mailing list of your target store with their birthdays included in the record, for a given month - the month you will be mailing.

Step 2:

Design a direct mail postcard that announces the birthday gift/offer with clear copy and graphics.

Step 3:

At the starting of every month, mail the postcard to those on that month's list.

Step 4:

Serve them well. Treat them kindly. Give them a bit more than they even improbable and watch your company expand, month after month.

That's all there is to it. Good luck and enjoy the uptick in business!
