Christmas Day is eagerly expected all year long but unfortunately despite the goodwill and cheer it can be a stressful day. For many of us it heralds an obscenely early start to see if Father Christmas has been, followed by recording the kids as you stumble colse to bleary eyed already regretting that Christmas Eve bottle of Baileys. Then begins the unbearably long process of preparing Christmas evening meal and if you are a kind soul then you have probably invited others over to share your meal. The turkey needs to go in the oven at the crack of dawn, the vegetables need to be washed, peeled and chopped, and the Yorkshire pudding mix to be ready and we just hope for your sake you have a frozen readymade dessert in the freezer!
In the midst of all this chaos you still need to glam yourself up in your Christmas outfit having presumably had your hair done the night before. Dad is inevitably on the floor with the kids fitting all sorts of toys with batteries, attaching games consoles to televisions and constructing railway sets. Suddenly the kids remember they are hungry and in order to keep them well away from the bustling kitchen you shove a choice box at them only to end up with hyper active monsters leaping off couches and making a mess. Sound familiar? Well this year here are a few tips to keep the kids quiet on Christmas Day and for the rest of the winter school holidays.
Food And Dessert
When choosing Christmas gifts for kids you will regularly be guided by a list written expressly for Mr. Claus. Although it is imperative that you do buy a few items from said list, think about either they are worth their value and if they will last longer than a week. Once you have premium a few gifts and discarded those surplus to requirements, you should consider what gifts will keep them out of your hair in the long term.
One good choice is craft kits. Microscopic girls will love cross stitching sets as not only are they learning a new skill but they can faultless gorgeous pictures through this art which can be framed and settled on your walls or given to house members as gifts. Another good kit for girls is the friendship bracelet kit. Girls love giving and receiving Christmas gifts so this is the exquisite occasion for her to make her friends some gorgeous bracelets as a token of her friendship.
For Microscopic boys, model aeroplane sets may sound old hat but trust us these kits will keep them entertained for hours and dad will be hooked too! Not only will it help improve their dexterity with all the fiddly bits but their knowledge will grow as you have a choice of any war fighter plane you like to teach them about the wars of the past.
When doling out the treats on Christmas day try not to overload the kids all at once, if you do fall into the trap of holding them quiet with food but ending up with a sugar meltdown then get all wrapped up and bring the kids out on a frozen winter nature walk. If you are lucky sufficient to have a white Christmas the kids will burn hours of energy making snow men, snow angels and having snow ball fights. If not then you can get the kids gathering pine cones to make into Christmas decorations. Any way you conduct to distract them outside, make sure they are worn out so upon your return you can plonk them in front a stocking filler of a D.V.D. And you won't hear a peep out of them.
So this year select your Christmas gifts and activities wisely to guarantee some peace and quiet during your festive season.
